Brent Louis
January 18, 1979 – July 25, 2015
Surrounded by his family and friends Brent Louis, aka Skooby, son of Unita Louis, brother of Heidi Louis, grandson of Camille & Raymonise Francis (D) and Aileen & Frank (D) Jean-Pierre, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2015 at the age of 36.
Brent had a passion for reggae music and movies; a DJ in his own right he spun mixes with his boys in Jetblack. He was a lover of dominoes, dropping 6-Love on cardboard tables, he took on his uncles, Lebert, Roderick, and Davis; he played with his boys, Joel, Thierry, Sadiki, Delano, Alger and that one girl, Kathryn.
Brent loved people, especially kids; he shared a relationship of mutual respect with all the children he encountered. Though he, at times, gave stern directions, he left them wanting for his time and attention. Brent was a lover of Chinese food, a die-hard Steelers fan, a family man whose family included a community that surpassed bloodlines. A creature of habit, Brent was not fond of change – he was a man who knew what he liked and made it known. Like his Grandfather, Camille Francis, Brent knew something about everything. A self-taught techy genius and holder of coveted BBQ sauce recipe, he attended the School of “Teach Myself and I’ll Teach You”.
With love and courage Brent now leaves his mother Unites to continue to make him proud as founder of the Sickle Cell Parent Support Group and the job of closing the fridge door; he also leaves Grimy Chic to, on his behalf, collect candy taxes from their younger cousins at Halloween and Easter. He leaves his Aunties, Nennen, Ceces, Alita, Maymay, and Oma to continuing praying with him from a distance; Aunty Adrey and Greetings to tie East and West; his Aunty Foya to find another back to scrub too hard or hair to pull too tight, Uncles Tootom, Vaiyo and Kenny, his mentors, to take another in hand. He leaves his cousins, in Canada, the US, and St. Lucia, to access the opportunities that lie before them and to his friends the mission of celebrating this life and One Love. Skooby, we really do love you, like couchon loves laboo. Everything gonna be alright…
We are truly thankful to the staff of The Ottawa Hospital, CHEO, The Ottawa Sickle Cell Group, The Ontario Sickle Cell Association, and the Sickle Cell Disease Association of Canada.
Family and Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home - 2370 St. Joseph Blvd. Orleans, ON, K1C 1G1, July 31, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral Saturday, August 1, 2015, Divine Infant Church, 6658 Bilberry Drive, Orleans, Ontario, K1C 2S9, at 11 a.m.
In memoriam donations to The Ottawa Sickle Cell Group (CHEO Foundation), Camp Jumoke or the Sickle Cell Association of Ontario.
